Saranac Lakes Chain and Saranac River

The headwaters of the Saranac River consist of about 40 ponds and lakes around the north end of Upper Saranac Lake. Get a copy of "The Adirondack Canoe Map" which shows these many pond-hopping routes. The three large interconnected lakes - Upper Saranac, Middle Saranac, and Lower Saranac provide numerous opportunities for paddling and camping. A 17 mile canoe trip can be made from Upper Saranac to Lower Saranac. Side trips include Weller Pond and Ampersand Mountain.
